- Type-material: 6 syntype queens.
- Type-locality: Indonesia? (“Borneo”): Kalimantan?, Nanga Serai (Winkler).
- Type-depository: unknown.
- [Note: Stitz gives the depository as “Mus. Hamburg”, destroyed in World War II.]
- Subspecies of variegatus: Chapman & Capco, 1951: 252; Bolton, 1995b: 125; Pfeiffer, et al. 2011: 38.
- Distribution: Borneo.
